Detective Buda Basketball Classic Returns To Fort Lee

FORT LEE, N.J. — All four of Fort Lee's elementary schools will square off for the 14th Annual Detective Buda Basketball Classic — the "D.A.R.E. Games" — on March 31 and April 1.

The coed tournament was launched by retired Fort Lee Police Detective Vincent Buda as a way to promote Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.).

The games will take place in the Fort Lee High School gymnasium. The schedule:

  • Thursday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m.: School No. 1 v. School No. 3.
  • Thursday, March 31 at 8:15 p.m.: School No. 2 v. School No. 4.
  • Friday , April 1 at 6:40 p.m.: Loser of School No. 1 & School No. 3 v. loser of School No. 2 & School No. 4.
  • Friday, April 1 at 8:20 p.m.: Winner of School No. 1 & School No. 3 v. winner of School No. 2 & School No. 4.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for a price of $1 for students and $2 for parents. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold per game. Everyone who purchases a ticket is automatically entered into a “Fan of the Game” raffle. 

A trophy ceremony will follow at the conclusion of Friday evening's games.
